Mural arts program

This featured artist is actually thousands of featured artists.  Anyone who lives here in Philadelphia or has gotten the chance to visit and walk around knows that this is a city of murals.  There are over 2,700 gorgeous, huge murals on the sides of buildings all throughout the city, more than any other city IN THE WORLD!  (Go Philly!)

The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program started in 1984 as a way to stop the spread of graffiti in the city.  The city actually reached out to graffiti artists asking them to participate in the program, and redirect their art towards having a positive effect.  MAP has grown and evolved throughout the years, and does everything now from providing art programs to underprivileged city schools, to using art as a vehicle to teach self confidence and life skills.
You can even submit a request for a mural in your neighborhood (or even on the side of your brownstone if the space lends itself well)
